The Family Code

Father and Son

Many unmarried couples in the Philippines who start having children are in a dilemma when it comes to whether their sons or daughters will carry the father’s surname or the mothers. Usually, illegitimate kids carry their mother’s surnames even if the couple are still together. I am in the same situation. Due to some reason, Liv and I are not yet married although we are planning to officially become a couple next year.  But, in  our case, my son uses my surname although Liv and I are not married yet. The Article 176 of the Family code of the Philippines that states “illegitimate children should carry their mother’s surname and not their father’s“,  was written to give protection to single parents and to give the women automatic custody of the child. But this Republic Act has already been modified through the Republic Act (RA) 9255.

a short note on the history of Rock Music

Rock Music

Rock Music

What do you know about the history of Rock Music? My grand dad told me that rock music is actually a child of ‘rhythm and blues’ and also of jazz. Actually, he is right. The basic of rhythms of rock and roll were already present in primitive jazz, and they reappear in ‘boogie’. Despite the growing popularity of other genres nowadays, Rock music still stands out, because it embodies all the sounds, the colors, the anxieties, the frenetic rhythms, and rush of life in the big cities.

Introducing God to Little Ollie

A baby praying

A baby praying

My son Ollie will be one year old next month, he hardly talks clearly yet, but I think that’s understandable. He’s very active and quick in learning. My son is very independent and he is not afraid of trying new things. He hardly has tantrums and we don’t have problems feeding him either.  Right now, he’s on the process of trying to stand up and walk on his own without any help from us. He can utter a few words already but most are still babyish, we want him to learn the right words, so we don’t do  gibberish baby talk. What we do instead  is speak to him clearly, associated with actions and some pictures.

Hugs for Health

Hugs for Health

Before I start this, let me shower you all with Hugs Hugs Hugs HUGs :)

HUGS

HUGS

A hug is the most comforting gesture one can do for another person, most especially if one is feeling so down. For some reason, there seems to be some kind of power to lift up one’s spirit and self-esteem just with a simple hug. Ongoing research studies indicates that people who are being shown affection are less likely to get sick, feel sick, or see a doctor in their entire lifetime. People who are shown affection have more zest for life, love for work, less likely to get burned out, and feel that their existence is more meaningful.

How to tell if your kid is Anemic

How to tell if your kid is anemic?

How to tell if your kid is anemic?

It is quite alarming that there is a current rate of 30 percent Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) among our little preschooler whose age range is from 2 to 5 years, and 57 percent among infants. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is caused by low iron and vitamin C in the diet.
Symptoms usually include paleness of the skin, inner lower lip, nail beds, palm, and the inner mucus membrane lining the inner surface of the eyelid. If you noticed during check-up, doctors usually examine the eyes of either kids or adult.

The difference between Asthma and Pneumonia

29th September 2008 by Adi No Comments

Asthma and Pneumonia Confusion
My younger brother who has been asthmatic since we were kids was diagnosed to have Pneumonia. just a week ago.  My mom was in a dilemma about how to differentiate asthma from pneumonia because my brother only had signs  and symptoms of the usual asthmatic person. Whenever he gets exposed to various substances like dust, perfumes, powder, and other stuff with strong odors, he would get an asthma attack. He’s been hospitalized a few times before due to his condition. He usually has the usual spray and tablets that are used for  asthma medication, that was prescribed by the physician before. But during his last check-up, the doctor said that he has developed pneumonia.

The difference between Asthma and Pneumonia
Here’s what the doctor had to say: Both asthma and pneumonia are diseases that affect the lungs. Asthma however involves inflammation, while pneumonia is an infection.

How to tell if it’s Asthma or Pneumonia?

Understanding Scoliosis

scoliosis

scoliosis

Liv went to the doctor yesterday to have her check-up. She’s pretty healthy in all other aspects except for one thing, she has scoliosis and it developed for the past few years. She’s been through an ongoing series of therapy sessions already, her condition does not seem to get any better, but at least it eases the back pains that she’s suffering from due to scoliosis.  Even if one is not a doctor, you can tell if it’s scoliosis because of the obvious difference from a normal spine’s form.

Tips for getting a better sleep

Are you insomniac, sleep deprived, or suffering from lack of sleep? Well. I’ve got a few tips that might help you to get a better sleep.

First, take frequent breaks during the workday. Walk around, get a drink of water, take some deep breaths. Engaging in a 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a couple of hours before bedtime could also help you relax, restore energy, banish depression and fight nervous tension.

house, trance and techno music

19th September 2008 by Adi 2 Comments

So what in the world is house, trance and techno music?

House music grew when certain DJs in the 80s became bored with standard disco music and altered the sound to make it less pop-oriented by making the beat more mechanical and the bass grooves deeper. The new sound became popular with the underground clubs in Chicago, New York and London. House music’s appeal is that it retains the basic elements of disco (a driving beat and great vocals) with modern instrumentation. So when you hear music with a mechanical beat with vocals, that is “house music”

Almost Christmas

17th November 2008 by Adi No Comments

It’s such a wonder how time flies so fast and we don’t even notice it. It seems like Liv was just pregnant yesterday, and now our little Ollie is one year old. The other nice thing is that in a very short period of time from now, Liv and I awill finally be debt free. Although we’re saving up for our big day next year, we’re planning to go on a vacation and spend Christmas with our loved ones in the south who didn’t have a chance to see our little boy yet. Liv and I has been checking out some good deals on vacation rentals that we could avail for the trip.I’m sure my aunt and cousins will be very delighter to see us since they have been asking us to pay them a visit. It’s also a little easier now that Ollie isn’t a tiny baby anymore. He easily adapts to changes now and I think travelling won’t be such a hassle. We’re looking forward to this Christmas season. It will truly be a Merry Christmas for us.

Hot Wheels!

Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels

If you’re also a guy who love cars as much as I do, I know what you’re thinking right now. How I wish I could have one of these in my garage too. Boy, the owners of these two hot babies must be filthy rich and lucky. I’d be more than happy even just to test drive one of them. They look really hot, don’t they? I bet they’re just as hot to the eyes of auto insurance companies, it makes me wonder how much the owner is paying for it’s premium. But, if I had one of these, I wouldn’t mind paying as much. I’m sure I’d look great driving them. I can almost imagine myself and my baby driving around. Although I’m the type who love speed, I think I’d be extra careful when handling this kind of beauty. How about you? What’s your dream car?

don’t dink and drive

13th November 2008 by Adi No Comments

Everyday I hear news about people getting into car accidents, and mostly because due to drunk driving. I wonder why people don’t ever learn from the same mistakes that millions of other people has committed, and even with the knowledge that they could get into a vehicular accident, they still risk their lives. People can’t help but still drink and drive, and most of them don’t even have any accident insurance or does not even bother looking at auto insurance quotes to at least have a protection just in case. I guess it’s about time that a stonger level of penalties be implemented on those who violate the rules, because one does not only endanger their own lives with drunk driving but also cost lives of innocent people.

major procrastinator

10th November 2008 by Adi No Comments

I’ve been telling myself I should study how to cook proper food just like my partner Liv because she can’t do the cooking most of the time. But the thing is I can’t help but procratinate, and say I’ll just start my lessons tomorrow. And when the day comes, I say maybe tomorrow (again). Perhaps it’s also because of the things that’s been happening lately. I got so caught up with taking care of the business while taking care of ollie at the same time. He got sick again, and I got so worried, I couldn’t function well until I knew he was going to be alright. I know that the shop isn’t a good environment for my son, but I am the only one who can look after him while everyone else is busy. At the same time, Liv is also caught up with so many deadlines at work which leaves both of us without a choice. Usually, we just buy pre-cooked food and just heat it up in the microwave oven. I really think I should start some lessons in healthy cooking, otherwise me and my family might end up eating unhealthy food. I really need to find time, move my lazy ass and stop procrastinating.

off to a new beginning

1st November 2008 by Adi No Comments

A lot of people wish to go abroad to be able to earn more for their families. I am one of them. As much as I’d love to stay where I am now, with my family, life is just getting harder each day and it’s so hard to cope with the financial crisis going on. Lately I’ve made a move to renew my nearly expiring passport in the hope of applying for a position as one of the seafarers in the company where my old brother is working. I have to wait for a few months before I finally get that employment spot, but I’d patiently wait for that opportunity. I simply want the best for my family. The past few months has been a series of ups and downs for me and Liv and I’m just happy that we’ve only got a couple of months to pay off our loans and we’re finally debt free. After that, we’re off to a new beginning. We’re going to start right this time.
